Prior to joining Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Ben Voigt, CLU, CFP® worked in consulting at Accenture. The path he saw was one of selling your soul to the company for the money. Ben wanted more control over his career and joined The McTigue Financial Group in 2001.
Ben has earned the National Sales Achievement Award (2003, 2005-2008), Million Dollar Round Table Qualifying Member (2003-2008) and National Quality Award (2004-2008).
He offers his insights on the career:
"I enjoy the variety in my day and the interaction with many different people."
"Keeping the vision of what you are trying to build in the face of adversity and rejection can be hard. It can be a challenge dealing with the ups and downs of client building. It can be a roller coaster. There are many highs and lows. I've learned that I have a lot more determination than I thought I ever had. "
"There is pride in knowing that you can make a difference. It means a lot to me when at the end of an initial meeting someone's perception of what I can do for him or her has changed. There was a specific case that stands out in my mind. As this case was being underwritten in the Home Office a spot was discovered on one of my client's lungs. Due to the care taken by the underwriter, the spot was discovered in time for my client to have the necessary surgery and everything turned out okay. This experience let me know how impactful we can be to our clients on many levels."
Ben offers some advice for those considering the career:
"This is a great life but it is not for everyone. There are two things you should be aware of before you make your decision. You need discipline and courage to continue through the tough times. Most importantly, you must care about people. Integrity and really caring what you provide to your clients and friends will help you be successful."
"You will come to the career finding as many reasons to join as to not join. The interview process will help you find the answer. It's meant to either attract you more to the career or help you make an easy decision that the career is not for you."
"Nothing venturednothing gained. See the interview process through. You have to eventually make the leap of faith."
