J. Hobie Murnane, MBA, CLU, took a long and winding path to The McTigue Financial Group. Hobie has been a military leader, teacher, coach, Jesuit and counselor. Each experience has prepared him for success as a financial representative.
Seeds for Murnane's success were planted during his military service more than 25 years ago.
As a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy West Point and a captain in the 3rd Armored
Cavalry Regiment in Fort Bliss, Texas, he was responsible for leading hundreds of people.
"I never considered myself in a position of power," Murnane said, "but rather in a position of
privilege. I was responsible for the lives of men and women, for defending our nation. This was
my first true experience with service," says Hobie.
What's the common thread among Murnane's experiences?
"In each, I have been driven to be deeply and meaningfully involved in the lives of other
people," he says.
"In my first year as a financial representative, I was driving to an appointment," he said. "I was out of sorts, but the sun was
shining. Then it dawned on me: in comparison to some of the people I have worked with, I am
driving my own car, I have a home, I am well-fed and on my way to meet someone who likes
me. The rest, as they say, will take care of itself."
And it has.
"When you take time to let people know you care, good things happen," he said. "Whether that's
in your personal life or your work, it's the relationships you create that matter."
For Murnane, the impact of those relationships has been immense.
"Because I care about people, most of my clients have become friends," he said. "When I have a
rough day, I call someone who is happy to talk to me. Instantly I feel better, and remember why
I'm here."
